Greenies were founded in 1996. It was inspired by a story of a cute puppy with stinky breath, namely Ivan. Ivan’s owners worked with a great veterinary nutritionist and other experts to resolve Ivan’s oral health issue. That is when they created the first ever Greenies Canine Dental Chew.

Since then, the company has been expanding its business globally by producing various best cat treats and chews. Greenies dental for cats are designed in such a way that has a crunchy texture to scrape plaque and tartar off cats’ teeth. It also gives a freshness to your cat’s breath. Greenies are among the few brands to receive the Registered Seal of the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC).

The main goal of Greenies is to overcome the oral health issues that dogs and cats face. Pets are fed various items from veg to non-veg, which leaves a bad breath. You can not force your pets to brush their teeth, obviously. Greenies help remove the stinky breath from your pets’ mouths and give them oral freshness. Oral hygiene is necessary even for pets to maintain good health. It is not just about bad breath. Keeping good oral health is essential; otherwise, cats can catch several diseases.

Feline Greenies has three product lines. The first one is Dental Treats, it is the most popular product among all. It has many flavors, like chicken, salmon, and catnip. These treats have a crunchy texture that helps scrape out your cat’s teeth to keep them clean. Another one is the SmartBites. It also has a crunchy texture but with a soft center. And the third one is the Pill Pockets, designed to give your cat their medication. All the feline greenies are made with the aspects of cats’ health, from the skin to oral health.

Can I give my cat Greenies every day?

Are Greenies Good for Cats

Greenies are one of the most popular pet food brands. It is highly recommended by veterinarians for cats. It sells around 300 million treats globally each year. Isn’t it enough to prove that greenies are healthy for cats and you can give them to your cat daily?

The oven-roasted chicken flavored treat by Greenies is the most popular cat treat. It alone has over 2300 positive customer reviews on Chewy and 3500 on Amazon. Feline Greenies are rated around 4.5/5 stars on average.

Although there was so much negativity about Greenies in the year 2020. People started mentioning it as the worst cat treat ever. It was said that the treat does not have any healthy ingredients and does not help clean teeth. But as per the recent unbiased reports, reviews and feedback, Greenies is represented as a healthy and safe treat for cats. Pet owners should cross-check the products as per their cat’s medical history because cat products are made by the company on a general basis, not on a customized basis for each cat.

Customers have noticed quite impressive results in their cats’ teeth and breath. It is not just healthy but flavorful, so cats can enjoy their treats while maintaining good oral health. Although everything has two faces, the Greenies also has some negative reviews but not enough to beat the positive feedback.

Feline Greenies treats are rich in vitamins and minerals that benefit the whole body of cats. These treats are low in calories and help in maintaining oral hygiene. All the ingredients are natural and organic. There is no harm in giving greenies to your cats every day. It is like brushing as well as eating healthy daily.

In the everyday world, our teeth get damaged by eating too many treats. But Greenies has turned the tables by creating treats that help prevent bad teeth and cats’ breath.

Side effects of Greenies

Feline Greenies are good for cats, but excessive amounts of anything will always be harmful. One should always keep a count of how many treats you are giving to your cat in a day. Greenies treats can be given to cats daily, but not too much. Some cats might be allergic to any excessive ingredient.

In case of too many greenies treats in a day, cats can experience various gastrointestinal problems such as vomiting or diarrhea. It can also cause intestinal blockage sometimes. This was why feline greenies got so much hatred two years back, but it was not greenies’ fault. Greenies have done everything good to produce healthy and safe treats for cats. But if cat owners will not pay attention to precautions and preventions while feeding treats to their cats, then it is not on the company.

Greenies may have side effects, but it is not because the company has made unhealthy treats. The reasons for side effects may be the excessive feeding of goodies, if the cat is already allergic to something present in the treat, at what time, and how many times a treat has been given to cats in a day. Cat owners should always look out for everything while feeding anything to their cats and should always feed in a limited amount to avoid any health problems.

Are Feline Greenies Treats Recalled or Discontinued in the Past?

Greenies have never had a recall in the past. Greenies had to go through some controversies way back in 2006 and 2015. Some pet owners filed a report against Greenies that their dogs died after eating greenies treats.

A class-action lawsuit was filed but later dismissed in 2007. The terms of the dismissal were confidential. Greenies were asked to cross-check whether the dogs properly chewed the treat before ingesting it or not because chewing is essential. The cases were settled down later on.

Certain rumors were still rolling among the people that Greenies treats are not safe for pets and no one should ever give them to pets. In 2013, Greenies responded to rumors that their products had been recalled with the following statement:

“There has been no recall of any Greenies products. We put pets first, and safety is our number one concern. The two important factors in Greenies’ safety are solubility and digestibility, which are both rigorously tested. After reformulation in 2006, Greenies Dental Chews were found to be both soluble and digestible. When in contact with canine saliva, they begin to liquefy immediately and are 94% soluble. They are also 92.6% digestible.”

Apart from that, it may be possible that some of the flavors of greenie treats are discontinued. The discontinuation and its reasons are not confirmed yet. The likely reason for discontinuation can be the low sales of particular tastes. Besides that, the company is going on good so far. People always try to bring down the best by spreading negativity about it. This is what keeps happening to Greenies. We have gone through recent reviews and feedback of people feeding greenies treats to their cats, and they have everything excellent to say about it. No problem or issue has been reported till now after those two cases. Eventually, the slate of Greenies is Clean.
